WANTS deals with diversity in all its various facets. The drama is set in a futuristic society where homogenization is the only accepted status, where divergence is not allowed.
Here, filmmaking and theater meet up through the interaction of actors with virtual stage sets.
In WANTS, visual and spoken suggestions interact to bring about a dreamy atmosphere, where the stories of the two characters take place:
Linda, an apparently borderline woman, and Peter, a mentally retarded man, who expresses his humanity through his simple and straightforward behavior.
The two of them struggle with themselves, with their own ‘diverging’ identities, and with an extermination task force called ‘Diversity Controllers’.
The plot is a metaphor of today’s world: wars, terror, fear of diversity, decrease or end of welfare for the elderly, the sick, and the homeless. It emotionally involves viewers, who are faced with reality and its likely dramatic outcome. At the same time, it raises hope for the strength of our human nature.
